Bad Year For Turbo Tax

Posted by Admin Posted on Feb 06 2015
Turbo Tax is having a rough year. First, many of their customers have been upset based on product descriptions. They buy a product only to find there is an up sell to a more advanced product that they need for their specific returns.

And now this, the State of Minnesota has stopped accepting returns prepared by Turbo Tax. Apparently, many people went to file their taxes online only to find out that someone has already filed through Turbo Tax.

Identity Theft is bad when it comes to tax returns etc. Five years ago, I had never seen a case where a client had been a victim of identify theft as it related to their personal tax returns. 3 years ago, I had my first such case. 2 years ago, I probably had 3 or 4 of them. Last year, it was probably 10 cases.

People file tax returns using another persons social and fake W2s to get a big refund.

You can protect yourself by requesting a personalize PIN number from the IRS. Each year, the IRS will then send you a special number via mail. Without that number, no can file an electronic return.

When we prepare a return, we generate a PIN number for your return but anyone can generate a PIN number. The IRS assigned PIN number is much more secure. To obtain an IRS assigned PIN number, visit this website:
